Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (“DST”) currently sponsors several programs designed to promote the development of young girls and boys. These include, but are not limited to, Delta GEMS (“GEMS”), Delta Academy (“Academy”), and EMBODI (collectively “youth initiatives”). Generally, each chapter administers the youth initiatives through committees, which are responsible for oversight of these programs.

To ensure that all participating chapters administer all youth initiatives consistently and in a manner that is in the interests of both the participating youth and Delta (i.e., minimize any harm or injury to the youth as well as the probability of Delta incurring liability), each sponsoring chapter shall adhere to the policies set forth by Delta Sigma Theta.

Risk management is the process of assessing risk and acting in such a manner, or prescribing policies and procedures, so as to minimize loss associated with such risk. Risk management in the chapter’s youth initiatives is important because it:

• Protects the organization’s people, property, income, and reputation
• Ensures the safety of youth and volunteers
• Helps evaluate the allocation of resources
• Focuses on safety and prevention.

The chapter risk management coordinator is responsible for executing the chapter’s Risk Management Program.
