Chapter Highlights: Programs and Initiatives
The Atlanta Alumnae Chapter promotes its vision by providing exemplary public service through implementing initiatives that parallel the sorority's Five-Point Program Thrust and Social Action focus. Among Five-Point Program initiatives during the current 2007-2009 biennium are the following:
Economic Development
Initiatives provided economic empowerment experiences for youth (Delta Academy and Delta GEMS) and seniors by partnering with community agencies.
Exhibits and workshops helped community members learn how to make, maintain, and grow their money.
Educational Development
The Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy and Delta GEMS are currently serving 66 girls aged 11-18.
Academy sessions are held once monthly at Bunche Middle School. With a major focus on mathematics, science, and technology, the Academy also provides experiences to develop presentation and leadership skills.
Another program component has been Economic Empowerments with a bank manager and other resource persons.
A trip to Tuskegee University permitted students and their parents to become familiar with an institution of high of education, its accessibility, and some historical perspectives.
